More books on the wanted list

Once again thanks to Sur La Lune for 'Library Essentials Month'.
A dictionary of British folktales in the English language [Set 1 Narratives set two Legends] by Katherine M. Briggs, here's is the Folio Society's publication and their youtube promo. As lovely as they are I don't think I could afford the Folio editions, there are paperback copies out there!

Some like it... hotter

phew, today was hot, about 32c....which is lovely unless you also spend 6 hours of it in the hotshop blowing glass. For the evening shift Nadine and I took a break after each object, letting the pink from our faces fade before we got back into it. Lots of water was consumed, but somehow it is never enough.

another day another book that I want

Thanks to Sur La Lune's 'Library essentials month' there is yet another book that I need to get. I did check the university library for "The great fairytale tradition: From Straparola and Basile to the Brothers Grimm" well I searched by the first part of the title..to which the search results asked
"Did you mean the 'the great air table production'?"   NO I did NOT....wait you mean there's a book on that? and no there is no result to that search either..which begs the question why did you suggest it you idiotic catalogue search.

So since the library doesn't have it, I'll have to get a copy.

Sandblasting

A quick experiment on how sandblasting a design on the front of the open cast pieces would look. A progression in the whole idea is to have a centre 'stone' that has no silhouette or shadow, all the animated characters will go through this one..like going into the woods...so this piece has to be different somehow. The test is with one of the pieces I am not using.

Big cat you tube clips

These have been very helpful, for getting the 'big cat' movements for Cinderella's last transformation. This is more for my records than for the few blog readers...though the pumpkins one is quite amusing

Sur La Lune's 'Library essentials month'

October is designated as "library essentials month' over at the Sur La Lune blog. This is a fairy tale resource that I have gone back to over and over again, one of the first I found on the internet...and I think the other day on the blog Heidi mentioned that the Sur La Lune website is pre google..and I think that sounds right. Anyway I have a feeling that I will eventually want all of her recommended library essentials.

I had an unscheduled visit to Fisher library this morning, where they have shelves and shelves on fairy and folk tales. Thanks to Heidi's list I was able to grab some that I knew would be good.

Not on the list but another book alert from Sur La Lune is  'The Fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm' published by Taschen. Here are some excerpts of the book from the Taschen website. It is of course available on Amazon.

Paper Cutting: Contemporary Artists, Timeless Craft

This book 'Paper Cutting: Contemporary Artists, Timeless Craft' by Laura Heyenga  is doing the rounds of all the paper cutting blogs at the moment... looks good. (and not too pricey either)
